Week 34 Book 33--Matched

The book Matched by Ally Condie has been getting a LOT of buzz...it's rumored to be the next Hunger Games trilogy or The Giver. And since I'm a huge fan of those two books, I had to give this one a try.

It's about a girl named Cassia who lives in a Society completely controlled by Officials...EVERYTHING in her life is decided for her, from what she eats, how much she exercises, who she marries, and even when she dies. And she is fine with this until a mistake in her Matching occurs (when her spouse is chosen) and she starts to have feelings for an outsider named Ky. This is definitely against the rules of the Society, and the more Cassia thinks about what she wants the more she knows she could be starting a rebellion.

This was a great read, although it's not as thrilling as the Hunger Games. The Society absolutely reminds me of that from The Giver. This is the first book of what will be a trilogy, and I felt like this book gave a lot of the backdrop for the action to come. So I'm expecting a bit more thrill in the next two books. But I feel for Cassia's situation, and I couldn't help wondering as I read how she would make her decision of whether she should rebel or continue with her daily life.

I did wonder, though, if there was a government leader that was over the entire Society...in other words, who was in complete control? Surely someone has to be the leader, right?

Great read--give it a try!
