Week Twenty-Four Book Nineteen--Far From You

High school student Alice (named after the main character in Alice in Wonderland) is stuck in a depressed state. Her mother died from cancer, and not only did her father re-marry but he also just had a baby with his new wife. So Alice tries to hold on to her mother's memory through playing the guitar...but this isn't comforting when her best friend, Claire, tells her that everyone is tired of her depressing music. It seems that only Alice's boyfriend, Blaze, can appreciate who she is and love her unconditionally.

And then Alice is forced to take a roadtrip to see her stepmother's parents. Aside from dealing with cramped and boring conditions, everything is fine until the return trip home. And Alice soon finds herself stuck in a blizzard with her stepmother and baby half-sister. Without a working cell phone and only a few snacks, Alice may find her own life on the line.

I loved this book! It is a novel-in-verse, which I'll admit that I don't always appreciate, but this book was so cleverly written that it became a page-turner for me. I really cared about the characters and appreciated Alice's growth through the book. I definitely recommend! And isn't this cover BEAUTIFUL???
