I am a huge John Green fan, so I was very excited to pick up the book Will Grayson, Will Grayson. Green co-wrote it with YA author David Levithan. The book is told in alternating voices between two high school students, both named Will Grayson. Although they live in different towns, the boys accidentally meet each other one night in Chicago. Their lives become intertwined, especially after they share a friend in flamboyant Tiny. Tiny is putting on a musical production of his life, and whether they like it or not, both Will Graysons are a part of that life...and therefore forced into looking deeper at themselves.
I really hate to say this...I REALLY hate it...but I just did not like this book. At all. I thought the concept was very creative--two guys with the same name meeting each other--but I just hated the way it was executed. So much of the book was dedicated to the characters' sexuality, and I felt like EVERY joke revolved around this. I had heard that the book was laugh-outloud-funny, and it probably would have been if EVERY joke was not about stereotypes. I think I'm supposed to love Tiny, but I didn't. I thought he was an awful friend and I did not support his musical endeavors.
Ugh, this is such a painful review to write because I LOVE John Green (I even have a photo with him in my office!). Just didn't care for the plot, John.
