Week Three--If I Stay

Week Three is complete!
This book was a bit challenging psychologically. It's called If I Stay and focuses on a girl named Mia. Mia just received great news--it's a snow day which means no school! But when her family decides to make use of this snow day, devastation hits in the form of a car accident. And Mia finds herself in a coma, watching her loved ones lifeless on the ground and her friends and family in mourning. And while in a coma, Mia must make a difficult decision--should she wake to a life without her family or join them in the afterlife?

I was very intrigued by this book--what a concept to have the choice of waking from a coma or choosing death. I always assumed that people would automatically choose to wake up, but that may not always be the case. The characterization in this book was great--as Mia thinks back on her life, she describes experiences, events, and people so that you truly understand their place in her life. I will say it was a little slow at times--I knew that Mia wouldn't make up her mind until the end of the book, so I read impatiently throughout the entire thing until I reached that moment. And while it was a great ending, I couldn't help but read too quickly to get there. So a great book, but be patient and enjoy it throughout its entirety! Not necessarily a page-turner but definitely keeps you thinking!
