Week Two--Reality Check

So far, so good...Week Two is complete!
This week I read Reality Check by Peter Abrahams. This book is about a high school football player named Cody. Cody seems to have everything going for him--a good football career, meetings with college scouts, and a popular girlfriend. But out of nowhere, things get out of control: his girlfriend's father sends her across the country to a boarding school and he suffers a football injury which ends his career. And Cody doesn't handle this well, choosing to quit school at age 16. But then things get worse--his now ex-girlfriend disappears from her boarding school and foul play is suspected. So Cody drives from Colorado to Vermont to look for her himself. But is he too late?

Peter Abrahams is known as a mystery writer, and I've read one of his books for middle school students (Down the Rabbit Hole). This was a pretty good read--it kept my interest and certainly drew me in with its mystery. But I did find it a little predictable...normally I can't figure out the clues until the end, but I did a couple of times with this book. A little too easy in my opinion for a high school mystery, and the ending certainly wrapped things up too neatly, but all in all a good read. You'll find the characters likable and the story intriguing.
