Ugh, it's never a good feeling when you finish a book you didn't enjoy, and that is the case with this book. But hey, at least I'm ahead of schedule! It's only Week Six and I just finished my eighth book!Hush: An Irish Princess' Tale by Donna Jo Napoli is about Melkorka, a young Irish princess. Melkorka's brother has been attacked, so she and her sister Brigid flee on horse in order to save themselves from possible Viking enemies. As they flee, however, they are abducted by Russian slavetraders and put on a ship for who-knows-where as slaves. Melkorka learns that by staying silent she has power over her captors, and she is determined to return to Ireland as a princess someday.
The vocabulary in the book is a little difficult to follow since it includes many Irish and Viking terms. I admit that I was VERY disappointed in this book. Although the beginning of the book provided a background of information for the characters, it seemed unimportant the rest of the book. So I basically got engaged in a particular plot for no reason. And the ending is probably the WORST I've ever read...so disappointing. And I'll just admit that the book is much longer than it needs to be.
This is the second book by Donna Jo Napoli that I've read and I just haven't enjoyed either. I tried, though!
