Week Six Book Seven--Mockingjay

I've been waiting for a LONG TIME to read this book...this is the third book in the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. I loooove The Hunger Games (you can check out my autographed copy on the Rosie site!)--it's probably my favorite book in the library.

To backtrack and learn how the series started, check the Rosie page from our main library site. In this book, we find Katniss in District 13, an underground district that has been re-building itself since its fight with the Capitol so long ago. And Katniss is trying to save her friend Peeta from the Capitol, kill President Snow, and discover safety for the whole country of Panem.

I have to say I have some mixed feelings about this book. I hate to criticize Suzanne Collins because I love her writing! She is definitely one of the most gifted YA authors in the field today. But I can't say I loved how the series ended. Without giving anything away, I'll say that a character's death STUNNED and depressed me, Katniss's romantic decision surprised me, and a character leaving without a goodbye disappointed me. And I felt in a bit of a slump after finishing the series, because it just didn't tie up as nicely as I wanted. But then life doesn't always go the way we want, does it? So even though it surprised me, I still enjoyed it and still claim the series as exceptional.
