This week's book was FANTASTIC! It is Split by debut author Swati Avasthi. It centers around Jace, a high school guy whose father is completely abusive. I mean COMPLETELY abusive. His father has physically and emotionally abused Jace's mother and older brother, Christian, for years, to the point where Christian has moved out with no contact to the family. And now his father has turned to Jace. After a very intense evening, Jace leaves in the hopes of finding Christian. But how do you live with a brother that left you behind?
This book is intense but SO well-written. I just couldn't stop reading. It is crazy to think that parents can be so cruel to their children, but I'm foolish if I think it doesn't happen. Avasthi creates a setting and situation so intense that at times I think I stopped breathing through some of the scenes. She has produced a fantastic first novel and I can't wait to read whatever she writes next!
